IMAGINE not being able to skip down the sidewalk, safely cross the street or easily use the stairs.

 Let’s Paint it Yellow!

Girl Scout Nation’s Capital Troop 1673 is working with community leaders and state legislators to Paint it Yellow. We are asking for better marked sidewalks, crosswalks and stairs within our community, our state AND, hopefully, the country.  We are asking local schools to add yellow stair nosing to their stairs, improve lighting and mark their columns. We are painting local park benches yellow so that people with low vision can see them. We are asking you to join us in making the world a BRIGHTER and better place!

Since 2018, we have been working to SPREAD AWARENESS of the little known disease called Usher syndrome.   Usher syndrome is a rare disease that results in the progressive loss of both hearing and vision; it is the most common genetic cause of combined deafness and blindness. While you might not know someone with Usher syndrome, chances are high you DO know someone affected by other types of LOW VISION: a friend, grandparent, neighbor, etc. We want to make the world aware that everyday things those with sight might take for granted can be a struggle for those with low vision. They are at risk for INJURIES or worse! TOGETHER, we can make their lives better!
